APPRAISALS

Pianocraftsman can provide you with either a verbal or professionally written appraisal upon request. Whether you are considering buying or selling a piano, Paul will provide you with a comprehensive, and honest, assessment of your piano that will enable you to make an informed decision.

For example, Paul often states that people fail to request an appraisal before purchasing a piano and, as a result, end up with a “lemon.” Consumers should be aware of a “free” piano that could end up costing roughly $1,000 - $2,000 to get rid of it after you have spent money to move it, pay to have it tuned (only to find out it is not tunable), and then pay to have it moved again and disposed of.

NOTE: If an appraisal is needed for IRS tax purposes, Paul can appraise your piano if it is valued under $6K. If your piano is valued over $6K, you will require a Certified IRS Appraiser.

Paul has helped many people avoid this potential expense through education and recommendations that help clients better cost-effective alternatives when selecting and purchasing a new or used piano.

For example, Paul recommends The Piano Buyer website which is an online publication and guide devoted to the purchase of new, used, and restored acoustic pianos and digital pianos. Information is compiled over the years from field technicians, analyzed and then summarized to assist in the buyer's decision.

Note: If an appraisal is needed for IRS tax purposes, pianos with values exceeding $6,000.00 require a certified IRS appraiser.
